Buenos Aires, November 23 (NA) – The Ministry of Defense celebrated on Sunday the return of the Frigate Libertad from a new mission, which, it highlighted, "repositioned Argentina in strategic spaces through each port visited".
"Its return once again confirms the value of the training ship as an instrument of integration, representation, and capacity building for our Navy," expressed the ministry, led by Luis Petri, in a statement.
The Ministry of Defense highlighted the Frigate's mission on its social media.
"In the government of President Javier Milei, we recognize this joint effort and the contribution it represents for the defense of the Nation," the ministry stated.
With Presti's arrival, a military officer will head the Ministry of Defense for the first time since the return to democracy.
The Frigate "returned to port after 169 days of navigation, more than 22,000 nautical miles traveled, and visits to 10 ports in 9 countries, fulfilling a central mission in the training of the future officers of the Argentine Navy."
"Its passage through different seas and its participation in international activities, including the Tall Ship Race 2025, reaffirmed the role of the training ship as a tool for diplomacy and external projection for our country," it concluded.
President Javier Milei announced on Saturday that the head of the Army, Carlos Presti, will assume the position of Minister of Defense, upon Petri's assumption of his role as a national deputy on December 10.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the Frigate Libertad returned "with concrete results," referring to the fact that it "strengthened the training of its midshipmen, consolidated ties with other navies in the world, received 51 foreign midshipmen from eleven countries, and repositioned Argentina in strategic spaces through each port visited."
"The 285 sailors who made up the crew went through a comprehensive training process, acquiring essential professional and operational skills for naval life. At the same time, their families accompanied each stage of the journey with the same commitment from a distance."
